NICE Compliance Regime for Technology Appraisals

On 9 August 2012, Sir David Nicholson, NHS Chief Executive, wrote to SHA/ PCT Cluster Chief Executives and CCG Leaders on the Publication of NHS formularies in support of Innovation Health and Wealth: Accelerating Adoption and Diffusion in the NHS (IHW).  IHW signalled the introduction of a NICE Compliance Regime for Technology Appraisals to support patient access to NICE recommended medicines and technologies. He stated that Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) will need to take the lead in ensuring that NICE Technology Appraisals are included in their local formularies. He stated that  ‘It will be important that the publications are online, and are clear, simple and transparent, so that patients, the public and stakeholders can easily understand them’.

Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Rebridge CCGs have adopted the formularies of Barking Havering Redbridge University Trust (BHRuT), Barts Health (Whipps Cross) and North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT) they are listed below and each includes the NICE Technology Appraisals that are approved for use within our health economy.
